They say the best way to lead is by example, and that is precisely what Honda is doing at its Torrance, CA campus. Honda wants drivers everywhere to consider driving an alternative fuel vehicle in order to lower our collective carbon footprint, and in order to do so, the automaker has developed vehicles like the Fit EV and Insight.
Of course, electric vehicles requires power, and that's on area of contention for some drivers: the infrastructure for charging electric vehicles is not nearly as vast as that which supports gasoline-powered cars. That's where Honda is starting to lead by example: the automaker recently built 120 EV chargers for its Torrance, CA campus headquarters for employees to use, while a publicly accessible 50kW DC "fast" charger has been put in place as well in order to allow local drivers and those passing by on the I-405/I-110 freeway.
The result? Honda is showing drivers everywhere that electric vehicles can and will be a viable solution for reducing our carbon footprint. And we have a feeling this is only the beginning. It won't be long before other companies and automakers follow suit and install their own collection of publically accessible "fast" chargers for the public to use, and we'll be excited to see it happen.
