It’s a good idea to acclimate your pets to being in the car before it’s time for that trip or vet visit by sitting inside it for a little while and giving them a treat so it has pleasant associations. Right before your journey, give them some exercise with a walk or some playtime so they can burn off some excess energy.

Your pets should always travel in a crate or secure harness to keep them safe during an accident or from causing a distraction in the cabin. Place a towel or blanket under them to guard against spills or pet fur, and don’t forget to pack ample food, water, treats and toys if your journey is a long one. Never leave your pet unattended in your vehicle for more than a few minutes, even if you think the weather is fine. Pets can quickly overheat or become nervous and stressed.
